Red Cross CEO combines love of people and love of service

Linda Voss is the Regional CEO for the American Red Cross Desert to Sea Region, which serves Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Linda has been serving the Red Cross for 18 years and in that time has truly found her home within the organization. She appreciates how the Red Cross “combines a love for people and a love for service,” allowing her to put all her skills together and use them for the betterment of the community.

As the CEO of a large region, Linda is responsible for many lines of service. As a 24/7 response agency, there is no such thing as a typical workweek. During “grey skies” (disaster) and “blue skies” (non-disaster) Linda focuses on being a good representative of the organization in the community. She makes sure she is visible and present, working with board members, volunteers and employees with respect to the work that they do within the community, making sure that the Red Cross is providing the very best service possible.

Linda was drawn to the Red Cross because of its mission-driven nature. When discussing the attitude needed at work she says, “You have to have the desire to make life a little better for people who are struggling.” Linda is passionate about “giving people the resources they need to get back on their feet.” She embodies the mission of the Red Cross – preventing and alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies – by working every day to make her region a great place to work and volunteer and helping the Red Cross build safer, stronger, more resilient communities.

Linda’s dedication can be seen in the way she views her work and talks about her team. When discussing the mission and work of the Red Cross, everything comes back to the people. Linda said that she is grateful to be working with a wonderful team of volunteers and employees. “We’ve got great people here,” she says. Her personal attitude, the positive workplace environment she creates, and the commitment to working toward the greater good can be felt by everyone around her.

While running an organization with a large service area and dealing with a multitude of responsibilities, Linda stays centered by focusing on the mission. “The greatest satisfaction comes from interacting with the people getting help…working with our clients that really need our services, that’s what gets us going each day,” says Linda. This belief can be applied to all the people who support the Red Cross. Whether employees, volunteers, donors, everyone plays an important role in carrying out the Red Cross mission.
