Celebrate World Blood Donor Day, June 14

On June 14, the American Red Cross, in partnership with Nexcare Bandages and supermodel Niki Taylor, will celebrate World Blood Donor Day to raise awareness about the need for blood and platelets this summer. All eligible donors are urged to roll up a sleeve to help maintain the blood supply and prevent a shortage this summer.

As part of the ninth annual Nexcare Give partnership, Nexcare has developed a collection of limited-edition bandages surrounding this year’s theme, “Roll Up a Sleeve and Give Where You Live.”

Lifesaving blood helped supermodel Niki Taylor survive

Nikki TaylorSupermodel Niki Taylor says she grew up watching her parents donate blood, but she had no idea that she would someday be on the receiving end. In 2001, Niki was critically injured in a car accident and needed about 100 pints of blood to survive.

“It was a matter of seconds that my life changed, and I would not be sitting here today had it not been for Red Cross blood donors,” Niki said. “A lot of people don’t think about it until they need surgery or they’re in an accident – so that’s why I want to encourage people to give blood now and as often as they can.”

Employees can be Red Crossers for Life

Red Cross employees are reminded of the summer employee blood and platelet donation program now open. Donate blood or platelets – or recruit a family member or friend to give on your behalf – through July 31, complete the Red Crossers for Life: Summer 2017 Employee Donation Registration form and you will be entered into a weekly drawing for a chance to win an additional floating holiday for each recruited/attempted donation. You’ll also receive a thank-you $5 Target eGiftCard™ for your efforts (limit one eGiftCard™ per employee during the course of the program).

Both regular and first-time blood and platelet donors are needed to help ensure patients receive the blood products they need throughout this summer.

For complete program rules, review additional details.
